OPIUO

Late one night trolling threw charts on Beatport i found a track by a guy called Opiuo and i got excited. His website says this -

"Opiuo is a producer / electronic musician based in Melbourne, Australia. His unique blend of highly original, extremely funky, futuristic, hoppo hop, and glitchy beats has quickly built him a strong international reputation."

I quickly went ahead and bought about 15 tracks of his and started following him on Facebook, i was an instant fan.

The truth is his music isn't Hip Hop it isn't Funk, Dupstep, Electronica or Breaks he is quite simply something different. In a world were so much music today is made by people who can put down the Ps3 only long enough to pick up Logic or Ableton and write a shiny track without actually knowing how it got so shiny Opiou is a breath of fresh air and he is legit. He is a Musician or genuine artist rather than another plaid hipster with a Macbook.

Opiuo go get em tiger.

Marco Carola

Marco Carola's time is now. He has been around in many different guises for sometime but its his 'PLay It Loud' LP that has cemented him as one of the big names and an exciting artist to watch. Recently being voted 11th in resident advisors Top DJ's of 2010 ahead of the likes of Sasha, Steve Lawler and Joris Voorn Resident Advisor recently had this to say about him:

When it came to following up Open System Marco knew it must be with something exceptional. "I've been working like crazy on Play It Loud," he says on the travail behind his latest full-length. "I've never been working like this, not even when I was a kid and I wanted to be known!" The resulting album is the perfect amalgamation of Marco's DJ and production sensibilities. Play It Loud's 18 tracks are presented in mix form and explore what proved for Marco to be a highly fertile middle-ground between home listening and the dancefloor—a reduced tempo and complete creative license from Minus allowed Marco to burrow deeper into his sound than ever before. "I always try to do something new," he says. "When I produce, or when I DJ, I don't really think about where I want to go musically, I just start to feel."

Norway is burnin down.

Norway is on fire! For such a small country on the other side of the world i have been able to learn two things.

1: They import the best coffee in the world.

2: They write, produce and perform amazing music.

About maybe ten or fifteen years ago i found this little ten inch record (on Paper recordings i think) by a group aptly named 'Those Norwegians' and it was great and way ahead of its time. Four tracks of dirty groove driven tech houser's that never failed to disappoint on the dancefloor. Since then i keep coming across records from Norway that are simply amazing, acts like 'Mungolian Jetset and 'Skatbard' to name just a couple.Really ambitious stuff and from what i can gather really under rated. Here is a sample of sounds from those fjord laden shores.

Mungolian Jetset - Mush in the Bush

Skatbard - Way Out

Those Norwegians - Kakao (Original)

Ralph Myerz - My Dream Queen

Ciscoe - Elevators

Norway you gotta go!

Sydney dance and House muisc scene

After being away for sometime i have come back to tell you all that i have had enough of the bunkum in Sydneys Dance/House music scene. True art must be fashionable or else it holds little modern day substance but what is being passed around Sydney as the latest sounds in Dance/House music has left a stale taste in my mouth. Its boring unimaginative and has been done before and is being done again with little more ambition than an old dog with scabies.. yes that right i have just compared Sydney's House scene to an old dog with scabies.

Lately i have been writing an album under the moniker "The Geographical" and a few remix's also and i can say i am really happy with them and i have been getting great feedback so i am really excited. Judge for yourself click on the arrow and take a listen.
