JP808 Ambient Mix - June 2011

Let's face it, those old Cafe Del Mar mix CD's we listened to in the mid nineties suck shit. They certainly turned me of Ambiance that's for sure. But there is no Cafe Del Mar crap here. This is an amazing journey into soundscapes the like's of which Ben Burtt (Sound designer for Star Wars) would be proud of. This deep spiritual mix is as contemporary as you will find.

Mixed by one of the rising electronic stars in Sydney today 'JP808' has put together some sublime aural treats here for sure.

So sit back, relax and slip on the headphones or get up close to the speakers and enjoy the space you are taken to.

Acid House of the Week '164 Seconds of Acid' by Boddika aka.Instra:mental

Congratulations champ.

Just learning about this dude, here is some stuff he says about himself.

“Boddika is inspired by Machine Music. My influences are mainly old school electro beats from hip hop and then Detroit electro producers such as Drexciya and Aux88. But I’ve always had a keen interest in Chicago House and Detroit Techno, as well as 90's & 80's Dance and Electronica, like AFX, Autechre, Lisa Lisa Cult Jam, Prince. Pretty much everything I like inspires me; as a whole I just do what I feel like doing when I’m in the studio, and that’s where the music comes from. Working alone has been very inspiring for me.”

System 7 - Positive Noise (Carl Carig Remix)

Dj Sneak - Mix For Russia

One of the second wave of influential Chicago house producers and a member of the vanguard of late-'90s American house producers, DJ Sneak wasn't born in the Windy City but began listening to house soon after his family arrived from Puerto Rico in the early '80s. Because he could speak no English, Sneak gravitated to instrumental music (as well as graffiti art), and became inspired by Chicago legends such as Marshall Jefferson and DJ Pierre.

This mix has everything that is great about House music, Its rich rhythms and seamless mixing has a hypnotic vibe that only Dj Sneak can create. Hailed as a legend threw-out all genres of dance, Dj Sneak drops this mix with a vibe all his own.

Dolly Parton - Jolene (Tokoloshe Remix)

Here is some Dolly Parton Quotes which explain why she is awesome:

"It's a good thing I was born a girl, otherwise I'd be a drag queen. "

"I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb - and I'm not blonde either."

"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap"

"If I see something saggin', baggin', or draggin', I'm gone have it nipped, tucked, or sucked!"

Pete Heller - 'Nu Acid'

Acid House of the week 'Darling Farah - Berline (Funkineven Remix)'

Not sure how this got past me as this track is approximately eight months old but its here now in the coveted "Acid House of the week" award.Whom is won this week by the Funkineven remix of a Darling Farah track called 'Berline'. Your packet of Mint Slice biscuits and bottle of lemonade is in the mail. Use them wisely.

Andhim - Patty Sue (Superflu Sunscream's Remix)

Proof not all Tech House or Minimal tunes need to sound like Vader's Theme from Empire Strikes Back. 'Andhim - Patty Sue (Superflu Sunscream's Remix)'is fun, catchy and rides a fine line of becoming cheesy but doesn't cross it. Just a fun track with an addictive groove.

Jamie XX - Far Nearer

Loving everything Jamie XX does at the moment and this is no different. After the XX won the Mercury Prize Jamie seems to have have stepped back and mainly been collaborating with other artists like Gil Scott Heron who pasted away recently and has been blogged here before. I do note that the big music websites are classing this track as 'House' were as up until recently this genre has been classed as 'Dubstep' or 'Electronica', regardless he is the producer of the moment and one to be watched. At least until he also sells out and produces Madonnas new album but let's hope that is a while away yet.

Dj KiNK for Acid House of the week!

Just like the baby in the above photo Dj KiNK is the shit. Lately his music has just been getting more and more warmth and a real organic feel to it. What does his studio look like? I'm guessing its a little bit more than Logic and Ableton in a Laptop.

The track i am posting 'Memories From The Future' is great acid with lashings of that Disco Swag vibe. Hopefully this is sign of things to come for the future direction of Disco cause if it gets any more camp than it already is at present I'm going back to being a drill sergeant in the marines full metal jacket style.
